We recommend planting at these times throughout the year for box, yew and others.
Plant bare root or root balled end of October through till end of March
Potted plants are planted between April and September and require watering
All potted plants contain slow release fertiliser for healthy fast growing plants.
All plants are grown in the UK and not imported from other countries which reduces the risk of diseases such as box blight causing poor growth, defoliation and loss of colour or loss of plant.
We spray and treat our stocks with insecticide in April and highly recommend our customers to maintain treatment to avoid damage from whitefly which causes leaves to curl and white residue to form on the foliage.
When plants are starved and turn brown, particularly in winter, we recommend using Tomerite to enhance the colour and quality in a short period of time.
Growmore is a fast acting fertiliser that is useful for promoting plant growth and can be used when planting or top dressing but it is important to avoid contact with leaves as this will damage and burn them. We recommend watering in the fertiliser on application or apply before rainfall.
Recommended method of planting Dwarf box
Planting every 10cm would require 10 plants per meter
Planting every 13cm would require 8 plants per meter
Planting every 15cm would require 7 plants per meter
It is often the case that planting Dwarf box at 10cm intervals would give you a hedge around 15cm squared after 4 years and at intervals of 15cm would be after 6 years. This is subject to accurate maintenance and is a guideline only.
